Week One in the Books and Homefield Was Clutch

Sept 16th 2010

Phantom Sports Won Big, But so Did Home NFL Teams

     Analyzing The First Week’s Results…

If you were with Phantom Sports Picks last weekend, you know what winning is all about. Our big plays were almost unbeatable and our regular plays were a powerful 17-6-2.

That’s a powerful 74%. if you check out our Past Results Page you can see every game we released listed. Our winning service is documented and we lay out the honest results for everyone to see.

Of the 16 NFL games played between Thursday and Monday last week 12 were won by the home team. That translated into a 10-0-2 spread record. If you bet all home teams blindly, you would have been a healthy 10-4-2. Either way that’s a trend we want to study.

The road warriors who won were the Dolphins, Ravens, Cardinals and Packers. This week, the Ravens and Dolphins are back on the road so it will be interesting to see if either of those teams can stand up to such a rough early schedule. The fins hit the road to play the Vikings, who had extra time to rest and prepare after their Thursday night loss to the Saints. The Ravens faced the defending Division Champion Bengals after that tough Monday night street fight with the Jets.

Our stat staff is on the case. Like Sherlock Holmes and Watson, they will find the truth. Was the opening weekend just the result of more effort and emotion being put into the first game of the season by the home teams? Or was it a harbinger of things to come?

Iowa State holds a 5-1 spread advantage over Kansas State in their last 6 meetings.

High scoring is the order of the day when Central Michigan meets Eastern Michigan. Four of their last 6 games have gone over against the totals line.

Might be time to bet a big dog! Ohio State is 14-0 facing MAC teams, but only 6-8 against the spread in those games. After Miami last week, could the Buckeyes be in for a let down?

Minnesota (which faces USC this week) has not beaten a Pac 10 team against the spread since 1999.

Wisconsin, on the other hand, is 8-1 straight up and 6-3 against the spread when facing Pac 10 squads. The Badgers host Arizona State this weekend.

Utah State is on a 5 game home spread win streak when hosting Fresno State.

Arizona is 0-7 straight up and 0-6-1 against Big 10 teams recently. The Wildcats are home against a powerful Iowa team Saturday.

                     NFL TRENDS OF NOTE

Other than the huge home field advantage that surfaced last week in the NFL, here’s some other trends to check out:

It’s hard to believe, but he Packers are a dismal 1-5-1 against the spread in their last 7 games against the Buffalo Bills.

Look for a low scoring game in Carolina this week. In the last 10 meetings between the Panthers and the Bucs, the game has gone under 8 times.

The Jaguars head west to San Diego and it should be noted they are 8-2 against the spread their last 10 September road games. So it’s obvious Jack Del Rio gets them ready.

The Jets do all the talking, but the Patriots do all the winning. New England is 10-1 against the spread in their last 11 versus the Jets.

 Sept. 3, 2010

A win and push to open the season put us ONE UP in the “W” column to start the 2010 College Season.

Of course, we had the easiest kind of winner as S. Carolina (-13) manhandled Southern Mississippi in a blowout. That game was never close. That’s the way we want to win them all. We got a little unlucky in out second game. We had Utah -3 over Pitt. The Utes opened a solid 10 point lead, but then went into armadillo mode and tried to coast home. Of course, you can’t do that with a team as powerful as Pitt so the Panther’s came back. The 3-point final as a push against the spread for a Utah team that dominated most of the action.

Missouri has Illinois’ number, it seems. The Tigers have chewed up the Illini against the spread in their last 5 meetings. Missouri 5  Illinois 0.

Utah State is a weak road team They are only 1-12 in their last 13 road games. They travel Saturday to play Oklahoma State.

Much more dangerous on the road are the Oregon State Beavers, who have gone undefeated against the spread in their last 5 road games. OSU travels to TCU Saturday.

Two schools with widely varying spread trends clash Saturday when UCONN travels to Michigan. UCONN has won 5 spread games in a row on the road while Michigan is on an 0-5 spread streak from its last 5 games of 2009.

                 AND SATURDAY’S BIG PLAY IS………

Can you believe it’s wall to wall TV football Saturday? Phantom Sports Picks knows it’s always more interesting to be able to watch the games you’re betting on. So, we’re revving it up SATURDAY WITH A TV DAY-NIGHT PARLAY.
